Choices in the early years

This weekend I went to visit my dad. My siblings and I have been watchful of him. He's getting up there in years and we worry perhaps too much.

So as I was visiting with him my brother showed up too. There we were enjoying his talk about our family history. The choices his grandparents made, the choices his parents made and the choices he made. Their choices affected our lives today. In the talk I realized once again that choice is powerful. Our "choice" will affect us and those connected to us. Choice comes from whats in our hearts. When life hits us hard, we have to "choose" to be angry and bitter or we can "choose" letting go, trusting once again, and having hope all over again. How many times have you heard, "I just can't do that" or "I couldn't help doing that"....

As our talk went to our childhood and our early choices, my brother was getting pretty worked up when he remembered all the discipline and correction that had to be administered in his life. Dad reminded him that he made the choice to get into trouble. My brother argued that because of "situations out of his control" he made those bad choices and then had to pay the consequences.....

I concluded that the choices we make, come out of those things that stay in the heart and seep out. Think about the choices you made today. Why did you choose that way?
