My BFF

A Desert Rat meets a Beach Bunny
What makes an acquaintance your friend? who chooses it? you or the acquaintance?  When does your friend become a good friend? what test must she pass too qualify? and at what point did she claim the title of your BFF?
Well I'm not sure that these questions have real answers but in my experience friendship has been an  anchor.  My BFF, the calm and responsible one of our BFF commitment is a beacon in my dark times, a song in sad times, and a blessing all twined through my life.

When I was exiting the final year of teenage chaos I met my very together friend.  She had a great job, dressed professional, owned a nice car, lived in a nice place, cooked nice dinners, exercised  and had a lot of class!  We met in church. I was struggling thru my 2nd year of college, dressed like a tom boy, ate fast food, worked in fast food! caught the bus to get from point A to point B and was still a very uptight teen.  We had nothing in common except that we had met a man who had changed our heart! and mind.  So there we are in church, enjoying this new life we've embraced and meeting new and different people.

To be honest she intimidated me.  I felt like a little kid around her.  I felt so undone whenever we talked.  Somehow in this awkward stage we were growing in friendship.  Then we became roommates!  That should have sealed a sure failure in friendship, you know since we saw all the flaws and weird quirks.  Room mating actually developed in me a much needed maturity and in her:  patience, which she probably had no need of before she met me!. You know when two people, especially girls! live together, alot happens. And it happens with a lot of flare and drama.  Through the arguments, the frustrations and the disappointments we learned to laugh at ourselves,  We learned to accept and enjoy one another and eventually to love and trust one another.

Almost 30 years later, states apart, raising our families working out our relationships we continue to be night and day in most things but through our common thread of faith in God we've not only been good friends, we are BFF status...and I do love my friend and am grateful for the most wonderful blessing of sincere friendship....
