My small part of a BIG job

To R is Human

A couple of years ago in my sons science book we had a lesson all about our environment and the effects on earth because of our lifestyles.  At first glance I was kind of  cynical about it because I know that the Lord of all the earth is in full control; "For the earth is the Lords and the fullness there of."  Yet as I taught the lesson something in me was confronted; my habits were pricked as we examined them and I mixed the plastic in the regular garbage, my convictions were stirred when I read about the various ways we pollute Gods creation, and finally I recognized how slothfully this seemingly insignificant part of life could affect the greater picture of good living. It put my lifestyle under the microscope which magnifies the minute details. Thus from that point on I began to practice recycling.

In the past couple of years I've learned that "saving the earth" requires a lot of attention since we with all our technology require much speed, which requires much equipment and resources.  As we efficiently speed up and save time and improve our quality of living we won't slow down to reduce, reuse and recycle....I must admit that if I allow it I could be overwhelmed by the whole chore of it.  How do I safely and economically get rid of the big things? Shouldn't I know what to do with fluid waste or Why am I always dropping the ball with my mulch bucket and forgetting to fill it?

Still I press in, peddling toward a cleaner earth and healthier environment. Very small steps I take. I do my little part most times.  Through the months I've fallen off track; forgotten my reusable bags when I run to the store or throw plastic in the garbage AURGH! But with a conscious heart and mind I aim to figure out recycling dilemmas and practice these things I've learned in the 4th grade science book :)
