Do I like the name Grandmother? too formal for me.
How does Abuela (Spanish for grandmother) sound? Kinda serious and a bit scary
Maybe something sweet like Nana? She sounds like a push over.
How bout Grammy? I picture the white bun, the curled spine and the spectacles. I think I'm too young for it.
Of course there's always the common name Grandma, but that's too blah ish
What she calls me will perhaps determine what my many other grandchildren will call me also. And what her dad calls me will lean her in a direction he deems good. One of my friends is called "mom" since her daughter calls her mom, her grandson follows suit. That's kind of confusing. Another of my friends is called "Wate" (in Spanish). Somewhere in the name Abuela her grandson heard "Wate"
and now her other two call her "Wate"....I love it. Its her own personal grandmother name. I have been petitioning for the name "Ama" (Spanish) because it fills me with memories. My mother was "Ama" to us and to her first three grandbabies because that's what they heard her called. And their own mothers they called just plain mom to distinguish it. So today "Ama" is a grandmother name with my family and I like it. But my son, who called his "other" grandmother Nana is what he keeps telling her my title is!
Ama that's what I want to be called.
How about a happy medium and use NaMa that way you sorta have both.(Smile)
